WOMEN'S FIELD HOCKEY HELD OFF BY SMITH COLLEGE, 1-0

Box score

CHICOPEE, MA, Sept. 20, 2006 - Elms College sophomore Katelyn Wasgatt (Worcester, MA) and senior Colleen Strunk (Stoneham, MA) combined for 14 saves, but Smith College freshman forward Rebecca Capute (Easton, MD) netted the game's only goal to lift the visiting Pioneers to a 1-0 win over the Blazers in Wednesday's non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the win, Smith stopped a two-game losing streak to improve to 2-4 overall. Elms College fell to 0-6 overall.

Capute scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a penalty corner at the 27:37 mark of the first half to provide what stood as the eventual game-winner.

Elms College returns to North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday, September 23 at Simmons College. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
