Coach's Corner
Mike Leonard was named the head baseball coach and Intramural
Coordinator in July 2009.
Coach Leonard brings a wealth of experience to his new position at Elms College and spent the summer of 2009 as a player/coach for the Worcester Tornadoes under manager Rich Gedman. The Tornadoes are part of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball located in Worcester, MA.
Prior to playing and coaching this summer, Coach Leonard was the assistant baseball coach at Division III St. Lawrence University (2007-2009). Coach Leonard's primary responsibilities included working with the pitchers, catchers and hitters as well as coordinating the team's strength and conditioning program.
In addition his baseball duties, Coach Leonard was an Intramural Commissioner overseeing intramural events, assigning officials, establishing rules and regulations and posting results.
Prior to St. Lawrence University, Coach Leonard signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and spent four seasons (2004-2007) in the club's minor league organization and reached AA with the Portland Sea Dogs in Portland, ME in 2006-2007 as a catcher. Coach Leonard finished the 2007 season in the Can-Am League with the New Haven Cutters.
During his stint with the Red Sox, he played for the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Red Sox, the Lowell Spinners, and the Greenville Drive before reaching Portland. While with the Spinners in 2005, he competed alongside Jed Lowrie, Clay Bucholz and Jacoby Ellsbury.
Coach Leonard was a four-year starting catcher for the University of Connecticut where he was a two-time All-Big East Conference selection, and four-time All-Big East Academic Team selection. He was also named a captain his senior year at the University of Connecticut.
During his senior year at Rockville High School in Connecticut, Coach Leonard was named Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and Hartford Courant Player of the Year.
Coach Leonard earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Connecticut and his master's degree in education from St. Lawrence University.
Ryan Quinn

Ryan Quinn enters his first year as assistant coach of the
baseball program. A 2009 graduate of Southern New Hampshire
University, Coach Quinn spent two seasons as a closer and two as a
starting pitcher. In addition to his playing experience, Coach
Quinn was involved with Norwich Navigators baseball clinics as a
pitching instructor from 2004-05.
Coach Quinn obtained his bachelor of arts degree in history with a
minor in literature from Southern New Hampshire University in 2009.
