  BASEBALL EDGED BY SPRINGFIELD, 5-2

SPRINGFIELD, MA. April 18, 2008 - Elms College freshman second baseman Mike Bedson (Moriches, NY) went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, but Springfield College erased an early two-run deficit with a three-run seventh inning to rally for a 5-2 victory in Friday afternoon's non-conference baseball game at Berry Allen Field.

With the victory, Springfield improves to a mark of 13-17 on the season. Elms College drops its third straight and falls to 7-14.

Elms College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when freshman catcher Carm Bonavita (Springfield, MA) and Bedson recorded back-to-back RBI singles.

Springfield College responded in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore catcher Rob Malaspina (Woodbury, CT) scored on an infield error.

The Pride took a 4-2 lead in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Malaspina and a two-run double by junior pinch hitter Luke Gabordi (Ledyard, CT).

Elms College freshman pitcher Matt Wood (Feeding Hills, MA) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs in the losing effort.

Elms College returns to non-conference play on Sunday, April 20 when it hosts a doubleheader with Newbury. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
