Box score

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL., Mar. 22, 2007 - Elms College freshman left fielder Mike Scott (Clinton, CT) blasted a game-winning single to highlight the Blazers' split of Thursday's non-conference doubleheader with Bates College at the Port Charlotte Invitational.

Elms College (3-5-1), trailed 4-3 before the last half of the seventh when the Blazers mounted their impressive comeback.

With one out in the inning, freshman second baseman Justin Jacobs (Springhill, FL) and junior catcher Joe Sawa (Chicopee, MA) singled before sophomore pinch-hitter Nick Mackowiak (Dudley, MA) struckout. Junior third baseman Nate Hawes (New Hope, MN) singled to load the bases for Scott, who connected for the game-winning, two-RBI, walk-off single.

Bates senior pitcher Griffin Finan (Bethesda, MD) gave up one run on 6 hits through seven innings and struckout four to lead the Bobcats to 3-1 victory in game two.

Freshman pitcher Sean Bergeron (Chicopee, MA) gave up three runs on 4 hits and struckout four through six innings in the losing efforts for the Blazers in that second game.

The Blazers conclude Port Charlotte Invitational action Friday, March 23, when they play Bethel University in a double-header.
