BASEBALL FALLS AT SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE, 12-1

SPRINGFIELD, MA, April 6, 2007 - Elms College freshman catcher Brian Marrero (Kendall Park, NJ) and freshman first baseman Mike Menard (Westfield, MA) each went 1 for 3, but Springfield College erupted for five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to break away to a 12-1 win over the Blazers in Friday's non-conference baseball game at Berry-Allen Field.

The Blazers fell to 3-10-1 overall, while the Pride improved to 4-13.

The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fourth when the Pride plated five runs then followed with five more in the fifth to seal the victory.

Seven Springfield pitchers combined to limit Elms College's hitters to four hits.

Elms College freshman second baseman Eric Stawarz (Chicopee, MA) delivered a RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh to plate the Blazers' lone run.

Elms College opens up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday, April 7 with a doubleheader against Castleton State College. The teams' will play that twinbill at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Connecticut. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
