ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College senior women’s soccer player Christina Goodchild (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior men’s soccer player Ziggy Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) were each named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Players of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Goodchild earned her first weekly accolade of the season after netting a pair of game-winning goals during Elms’ 2-1 output this week. Goodchild struck the back of the net with Elms’ first of two goals in a 2-0 win over Bay Path College on Oct. 15 and then connected for the game-winning strike in a 2-1 win at Southern Vermont College in the 89th minute of play – both goals coming off corner kicks – to help the Blazers secure a pair of NECC wins.
Jonathan helped Elms to a 1-1 week by scoring three times in two games. Jonathan found the back of the net twice in the Blazers’ 4-0 triumph over Southern Vermont, scoring back-to-back goals in the 48th and 62nd minutes of action. He also scored the first goal in Elms’ 4-2 loss to Lesley University and is now tied for the team lead in goals with eight.
