There are two full-time athletic trainers at Elms College who have
extensive experience in the recognition, evaluation, treatment and
rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The athletic trainers are
certified through the National Athletic Trainers' Association
(NATA), are current in first aid and CPR, and are licensed in the
state of Massachusetts.
The athletic trainers work with student athletes to make sure they achieve their athletic potential safely. When a student athlete incurs an injury during an athletic event or practice, an Elms College athletic trainer works with him or her on devising and implementing an individualized plan for return to their sport.
A physician's assistant from New England Orthopedic Surgeons in
Springfield visits Elms College every two weeks for on-campus
consultations with student-athletes. In addition, Dr.
Martin Lesser, medical director of the Elms College Wellness
Center, is available for consultation.
