Bio

Louise McCleary was appointed as Elms College's Director of Athletics in July of 2002.

Since that time, Louise has played a leading role in the athletic department's addition of 10 new full-time employees and three sports - baseball and men's and women's volleyball.

Her responsibilities include the overseeing of all administrative issues related to Elms College's athletic department, including fundraising, eligibility, compliance, game scheduling and fitness center marketing.

Louise brings a wealth of athletic administrative experience to her current position at Elms College.

Prior to her arrival Elms College in 2002, Louise served as Associate Director of Athletics at Vassar College from 1997-2002, and was both Senior Women's Administrator and Compliance Officer during that time. She later served as Vassar's Interim Director of Athletics during her final year at the school in 2001-02.

From 1991-1997, Louise was the Assistant Athletic Director at NAIA Division II-member Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. While there, Louise assisted the athletic director with the administration of 19 varsity and six sub-varsity intercollegiate programs that included more than 500 student athletes.

Louise, who was also Tri-State's Sports Information Director during that time, served as the NAIA's Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament Director and helped coordinate 16 committee chairs in the administration of a 32-team national championship. 

Throughout the past 11 years, Louise has been a member of 16 athletic administrative committees, including her most recent appointment to serve a four-year term as a member of the NCAA Division III Championships Committee.

Louise also brings nine years of collegiate women's basketball coaching experience to her position at Elms College.

She was an assistant coach at Wellesley College during the 1988-89 season before joining the staff at Division I University of Massachusetts-Amherst as an assistant from 1989-91, and later served as an assistant with the women's basketball program at Tri-State from 1991-97.

Louise earned her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College in 1987, where she majored in Political Science and American Studies with a concentration in Economics. She then earned her master's degree in Sport Management from UMass-Amherst in 1991.
